Reel to Red Productions Internship Program was established by Chelse Benham in August 2004 at The University of Texas Pan-American. It is sponsored by the Office of the President, the Office of University Relations and the Student Advisory Affairs Committee (SAAC). Benham created and directs the program to provide students with an opportunity to gain valuable television production, motion graphics, website construction, iPhone game construction, animation, marketing & social media experience.
Reel to Red Productions (R2R) supplies students with applicable work experience by allowing them to produce and air University programming on the Campus Vision System and develop special projects such as films, documentaries, animations, graphic design projects, iPhone games and websites. Students learn how to market through social media technologies and build marketing tools for the young demographic.
R2R students work with a wide range of software programs such as Final Cut Pro, Garage Band, Soundtrack, Adobe: After Effects, Flash, InDesign, Photoshop, Light Room, Illustrator, Dreamweaver; Magic Bullet, Red-Giant Toonit and Motion, Game Salad, Unity and mobile app SDKs. They work with Canon XL2 and HD cameras, body flowcam body harness unit, and virtual chromo-keying sets. The R2R paid internship program is a comprehensive and intensive hands-on experience that builds valuable and marketable human capital, while simultaneously serving the campus community needs.
R2R has recieved many prestigous awards including four Lone Star EMMY nominations with two Lone Star EMMY wins, a Telly Award, two Aurora Awards and the WEBBY People’s Voice Award. R2R’s documentary “The Heart of Experience” won the City of Basel Prize in Germany.
